Facebook dating feature  launched in Colombia 2 days back to test the response. Facebook has more than 30 million monthly active users in Colombia.

Feature link for Facebook dating will be pop up in the notification or the top of news feed to ask user to sign up for Facebook dating initially. After getting enough users, Facebook will start showing matches on the basis of groups, events and interest of the user.

Facebook has an advantage of having enormous user data to mine and offer best to the users. But Facebook dating  team decided not to go traditional way like other dating apps Tinder, Bumble. You just need to swipe to check out new profiles and start conversation.

User need to fill up the sign up form and upload up to 12 photos and answer some tricky questions set by Facebook. User can also add language, Religion, education, workplaces etc.

Facebook dating meant for long term relationships and not for just one night stand like others, Facebook product manager told. So no swipe like Tinder. You have to ask questions to each other on common interest to initiate the chat, if it goes forward, users can exchange information and start conversation.

User can set filter up to 100 km radius to check out the new profile and can check up to 100 profiles daily.

User Facebook dating profile is completely different and separate from his Facebook profile, so friends or family or friends of friends can’t see you, who you are dating or chatting.

All the messages get exchanged between only 2 users and have separate chat window than Facebook messenger.

First announced in 4 months back in Facebook’s F8 conference.

Why Facebook need dating?

Most of the American young generations is shifting from the social media to other platforms like Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok etc. People are using more dating apps than ever and in US alone $1.3 billion revenue generated in 2018.

Facebook may find out new revenue stream out of Facebook dating and also try to get back the younger generation on the platform.
